Back Home Again in Indiana...

The exciting event of my little brother John's wedding took us back to Indiana in March. The airplane ride with Rachel as a lap baby was quite eventful as she did not have much interest in sitting down. The boys had lots of fun flying in an airplane and watching as everything on the ground got smaller while we took off. They liked the airplane food--Cheese Nips and Sprite.
The first night we spent in St. Louis (we do this because there are no direct flights to Indy and this saves us a layover). The boys, as always, loved swimming in the "cute little pool." While we were at the hotel, the boys found a brochure about BigFoot. We discovered we were only a few miles from the home base of the beast and we couldn't pass up the chance to go see the museum. BigFoot is the original monster truck and these boys love monster trucks!
We then headed to the farm. It was a lot of fun to show the boys around the place where I grew up and tell them about the fun things I did when I was a kid. The first thing Brian did our first morning there was get on his camo so he could go "hunt" the elk in the pasture with his marshmallow gun. He would go in the grain bin and get a five gallon bucket full of corn and spread it out to lure them in. Once they were enjoying their morning meal, he would attack!
One day, we took a trip down south the Amish country. We enjoyed a meal at the Black Buggy Amish Restaurant and then went on tours of the local buggy shops where Grandpa Fred purchases his buggy's/parts, as well as the local hardware store. The boys thought it was pretty cool to see the young kids riding home from school on their little buggies pulled by small ponies.
The most fun part was just sitting down on the farm and watching the Canadian Geese flying over head as the elk munched in the pasture. It was just so calm and peaceful--no phones ringing, no trains or freeways...just good ol' peace and quiet...and no keeping track of time!

What a neat trip to reminisce with your kids! Don't things always look different with your adult eyes on?
